The Kissing Game

The cafe hummed with the soft sounds of conversation and clinking cups. You sat across from your best friend, Stella, surrounded by textbooks and highlighters, the weight of case law pressing down on you.
Stella groaned, stretching dramatically. "I swear, if I have to go over one more chapter, my brain is going to short-circuit."
You smirked, tapping your pen against your open textbook. "That would be tragic. Who would remind me what Marbury v. Madison was about?"
She rolled her eyes, grinning. "You should know that by now, Bree."
"Doesn't mean I do."
Stella laughed and stood up. "I need a break. Be right back, okay?"
You nodded, watching her disappear towards the back. For a blissful two minutes, you were alone with your thoughts and your studies. Then, the bell above the door jingled, and a wave of loud laughter and familiar voices washed over you. Your stomach dropped.
Please don't see me. Please don't see me. Please...
"Well, well, if it isn't my favorite future attorney."
You squeezed your eyes shut, bracing yourself. When you opened them, Liam Bennett was already making his way towards you, that infuriating smirk in place, about to make your studying session infinitely more annoying.
