The Reckless Bet

The Reckless Bet
University life was a carefully constructed world of predictable routines and quiet invisibility for me, a self-proclaimed nerd. But one reckless bet, orchestrated by my well-meaning but chaotic best friends, shattered that peace. Suddenly, I was on a collision course with Ryan Carter, the campus bad boy, and the life I knew was about to change forever.

The familiar hum of the ceiling fan wasn't enough to drown out the persistent chirping outside, nor Noah's determined shouts from beyond my door.

"Kat! Kat! It's time to rise and shine, girl. WAKE UP!"

I burrowed deeper into my pillow, clinging to the last vestiges of sleep.

"Go away, Noah," I groaned, my voice muffled.

But Noah, as always, was relentless. "Nope. It's the first day of sophomore year. You are not sleeping through it!"

I cracked open one eye, squinting in her direction. "That's exactly why I should sleep through."
