I'm Jade Salvador, the youngest of a family destined for greatness. Unlike my brothers, a governor and a celebrity chef, fate had a different, darker path for me. I was stuck in a fluorescent hellscape, a call center job that mocked my degrees and crushed my soul. Another rejection email for a job I actually wanted landed in my inbox, a fresh insult in an endless stream. My patience, already worn thin by annoying customers, snapped.

The thought gnawed at me as I sat there, feeling trapped within the cubic walls of my cubicle. I could hear the chatter of other agents around me, their voices a dull hum I barely registered. Then, a notification popped up on my computer screen – a message from my supervisor, Stuart, asking to see me at his desk.
