The Paxton Paradox
Everyone's jealous of Carly Tan, especially because she's best friends with the one and only Paxton Hall-Yoshida. It's a complicated 'friends with benefits' situation, and tomorrow, the first day of junior year, Carly plans to confess her true feelings. But a new guy arrives, threatening to upend everything. The fluorescent lights of the mall buzzed overhead as you and Lily Walsh weaved through racks of clothes, searching for the perfect first-day-of-junior-year outfit.
"This is cute," you said, holding up a pink denim skirt.
Lily shrugged, examining it critically. "I guess."
You rolled your eyes good-naturedly, keeping the skirt aside as you continued your search. The air was thick with the scent of new clothes and the low hum of mall chatter. Lily, true to form, was already off on a tangent.
"So you know how your cousin really likes going to baseball games..." she started, and you internally groaned. It was awkward enough that your best friend was dating your cousin; you didn't need a play-by-play of their dates.
