The air in Meriwether, your hidden bandit village, is thick with the scent of damp earth and the distant sound of your cousins arguing. You've just returned from a perilous journey, one that began with a simple robbery attempt and ended with a dying woman's last words echoing in your ears.

You found her in the Dark Forest, her face bruised and her red hair tangled with leaves. She spoke of Nicholas Everard, of another woman, and a baby, before her breath hitched and faded away.

Now, back in the relative safety of Meriwether, the weight of her plea presses down on you. You know reaching the Everard estate, Whiston, will be dangerous. The Town Guards are likely looking for you, and the world of lords and ladies is far from your own.

But a promise is a promise, even to a dead woman.
