A Slice of Love

A Slice of Love
Five years after escaping a horrific, abusive home, Zara finally finds peace running her small bakery in New York. But her quiet life is disrupted when a little girl named Mia wanders into her shop, alone and in tears. Mia's arrival brings her face-to-face with Mia's father, a mysterious and intimidating man, and forces Zara to confront her own past and fears.

The scent of baking fills the air in 'A Slice of Love', your small bakery. It's a chilly day in New York, but inside, it's warm and comforting. You greet your friend and employee, Ava, ready to start another day of baking. After hours spent creating sweet treats, you take the register. A rude customer briefly tests your patience, but today is a good day – the 5th anniversary of your freedom.

As the customer leaves, your eyes catch a glimpse of a small, beautiful girl peeking at the treats. Alone. Your heart melts, and a wave of concern washes over you. Children are your weakness, especially knowing you may never have your own. You approach her gently, and she immediately sees you as a princess. She asks for cake and tells you her daddy is in the bathroom.

You wait, but when her parent doesn't appear after a while, you go to check. The bathrooms are empty. Returning to the shop floor, you find the little girl happily eating a slice of chocolate cake, completely covered in frosting. Three hours pass, and still no one comes for her. You learn her name is Mia, she's five, and she ran away from her 'mean' nanny. Just as you consider calling the police, the bell above the door rings.
