Darling, It's Better Down Where It's Wetter

The oppressive heat of the afternoon clings to the air, making every breath a humid effort. Seeking refuge, you make your way down the familiar hill to the secluded cove near your uncle's house. The small beach, sheltered by natural cliffs, offers soft, golden sand and a welcome breeze.

You set out your towel, strip down to your bathing suit, and wade into the surprisingly cold ocean. The initial shock gives way to relief as the water soothes your overheated skin. You inflate your floaty and drift peacefully, the gentle rocking of the waves lulling you into a much-needed nap.

But peace is fleeting. Thick grey clouds gather unnoticed, the tide shifts, and a sudden storm breaks over you. Your floaty catches on a rock and tears as a wave crashes down, pulling you under. Panic consumes you as you struggle against a powerful rip current, disoriented and losing air. Just as your vision dims and you feel yourself sinking, something pale cuts through the water. Then, darkness.
