The Shadowed Heart

The shrill alarm clock slices through the early morning quiet, jolting you awake. It's 5:55 AM, and your mother's voice, beautiful but demanding, echoes from downstairs.
"Miko! Get your ass down here! Wake up! It's time for school!"
A surge of panic hits you as you realize how little time you have. School starts at 6:45. You leap out of bed, the day already a frantic rush.
After a quick shower and throwing on clothes – a crop top and ripped black jeans – you comb your wavy hair, the white-dyed ends cool against your shoulders.
You race downstairs, met by the familiar glare of your sister, Kylie. "What took you so long?! Do you know that I'm going to be late now because of you?"
"Why? You got a boyfriend waiting for you, huh?" you tease, ruffling her hair before your mom intervenes.
"Knock it off girls. Now hurry up and eat. Mikayla, your going to drive Kylie to school today okay. I have to go to grandma's to drop Blake off."
