The cold, sterile air of the Avengers Tower pressed in on you. The weight of your worn backpack shifted on your shoulder, a small anchor to the life you were desperate to reclaim. SHIELD agents, stern and watchful, had herded you here, a prisoner in all but name.
You stood before the assembled Avengers – Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Bruce Banner. Their gazes felt like physical restraints.
"Namara Ackermann," the droning voice of a SHIELD agent announced, as if presenting a specimen. "She'll be staying with you for the next few weeks..."
Captain America, Steve Rogers, approached you with a kind, almost sad smile. "Miss Ackermann, if you don't mind coming with me, I'll take you to your room."
