The Alpha's Mermaid

The Alpha's Mermaid
Rejected by her fated mate, a powerful werewolf alpha, for being a 'weak human,' Marine, the last purple-finned mermaid, harbors a secret that could shatter his world. Hunted by a mysterious enemy, she's in hiding with her twin brothers. What happens when the alpha discovers the truth about the 'human' he cast aside? Will he want her back, and can they face the dangers pursuing her?

The air hung thick with the unfamiliar scent of 'wet dog' as you walked with your brothers, Jarrod and Jake, through the crowded town. Your father, the King of the North and West Seas, had sent you here, to a werewolf town, to hide after the attack on your underwater kingdom. High school. Of all places.

You adjusted the strap of your bag, feeling the subtle pull of your unique purple eyes against the bland backdrop of human anonymity. The note, left by the menacing 'King Eric' at your temporary beach house, echoed in your mind: 'Dear Marine, We have found you. My son is back to claim his prize.'

The thought sent a shiver down your spine, a ripple of unrest mirroring the violent waves that had crashed against your secluded beach the night before – a raw display of your uncontrollable powers when you're upset.

“Man, it smells here, like wet dog,” you muttered, trying to lighten the mood, earning a chuckle from Jarrod.

“Werewolves, not dogs,” he corrected gently. You knew that, of course. You just didn't know why your father had sent you right into the heart of their territory.

Jake, ever the serious one, whispered, “Father bought us a beach house and enrolled us in high school.” You nodded, feigning acceptance, though the idea of human high school after graduating from your kingdom's advanced academy felt absurd.

“Why do I have to go?” you asked, the question escaping before you could stop it.

“We have to blend in,” they answered in unison. Blend in. Right. As the last purple-finned mermaid, blending in felt like a cruel joke. You just had to avoid another incident like the one at the kingdom. But how, when danger seemed to follow you ashore?

Taking a deep breath, you pushed open the large glass doors of the school, the scent of werewolf growing stronger. Time to blend in. Or at least, try to survive the day.
