The Forgotten Duchess

The rain lashed against the windows of Chalcott Manor as James Fulton, the Duke of Lennox, found himself in a state of annoyance. His valet was late, a minor inconvenience that nonetheless grated on his nerves after a tedious soirée. The manor felt eerily silent, and upon investigation, he discovered his servants gathered in the housekeeper's room around a cot.

On the cot lay a young woman, unconscious and injured, covered in mud and dirt. Found near the stables, her presence was a mystery. Against his usual inclinations, and spurred by the realization that his servants had taken her in, James ordered that she be treated.
