The Subway

The Subway
Eighteen-year-old Gemma absolutely despises the New York City subway. It's crowded, smelly, and full of strange people. But her parents insist she rides it daily. What she doesn't know is that one seemingly ordinary morning, her luck is about to run out, and the subway ride will turn into a terrifying nightmare where she's the victim in her own real-life episode of Law and Order.

The smell of stale play dough and old people. That's what you always think of when you step onto a New York City subway car.

You hate everything about them – the crowds, the perverts, the forced standing, and the fact that you have to ride it twice a day just to get to school because your parents moved outside the bus district.

Eighteen, and still no car. Instead, you're stuck here, convinced your luck will run out and you'll end up kidnapped, robbed, or worse.

After a typical morning of rolling out of bed, enduring your mom's yelling, and stealing bacon from your dad, you head out the door, munching on your ill-gotten breakfast.

You're halfway to the station when a text from your best friend, Megan, interrupts your thoughts. It's not an emergency, but juicy gossip: Archer Daniels, Colton High School's resident 'bad ass,' is single because he caught his girlfriend, Avery Robinson, with his best friend, Cade Phillips.

Rolling your eyes at Megan's dramatics, you arrive at the subway station. You pay your fare and find a seat towards the back, bracing yourself for the twenty-minute ride.

Pulling out your headphones, ready to ignore the world, you freeze. Sitting directly across from you, looking absolutely furious, is Archer Daniels himself.
