Hunted by the Alpha (Werewolf Romance) (FINISHED) (2024)

The scent of stale coffee and impending doom hung heavy in the air of the small convenience store. I stared down at my feet, breathing uneasily, trying to shove the last of my meager purchases into my shopping bag with trembling hands.
Yes, I wasn't a normal human being. And yes, I could read minds. It was exhausting, a constant barrage of unfiltered thoughts, but sometimes… sometimes it was a blessing. Like now.
He raised his gun, the cold metal glinting in the fluorescent lights. “EVERYBODY DOWN!” he roared, and the two other customers screamed, dropping to the floor. I just remained standing, narrowing my eyes at my bag. "Shit."
"You there!" he snapped, grabbing my arm and shoving me. I stumbled, collapsing to the floor with a grunt, barely cushioning my head. I sat up hazily, gazing at him. "Look, man," I said, raising my hands. "I know you wanna kill all of us, but if you try to hurt me… someone I really don't like is going to appear. I've been trying to avoid him, so can you be a kind fellow and let me go?"
He just took a menacing step toward me. I sighed, grumbling, and crawled to the corner with the others.
"It's not superficial," I muttered, when he questioned my earlier statement. "I really do not like him."
He raised the gun to me. "One more word, and I SWEAR."
I smiled. "Scrabulous."
He pressed the trigger. It clicked. His face paled, and he pressed it again. Nothing.
“Well,” a voice drawled from the right aisle, “look who we have here.”
A tall, broad man emerged, tossing a thin object in his hand. The bullet casing. The shooter stilled. "How did you...?"
“Hello,” the tall man said, bowing slightly, “my name is Alpha Damon. Nice to meet you.”
I rolled my eyes. "I warned you. I don't like him."
“Wow,” Damon said, glancing at me, a smirk playing on his lips, “that hurts, really. I knew it would be a matter of time before I found you. You always seem to find your way toward danger.”
