Paint the Town Red (Fox & Oakby Murder Mysteries Book II)

Imogen Fox, personal assistant to the Mayor of Fleckney Woulds, nursed her third cup of coffee, the caffeine jitters setting in. It was late afternoon, and lunch was a distant memory. Her gaze kept darting to the Mayor's office door.
Half an hour earlier, the Mayor had sequestered himself inside with Inspector Balinson and Sergeant Cooper. The latter had brought them directly to Town Hall with a dramatic announcement: two bodies found in the debris of the recently demolished dam. A project Imogen herself had meticulously planned and supervised.
The door finally opened. DI Balinson and Sergeant Cooper emerged.
"We'll keep you informed," the DI promised politely. The Mayor nodded, then turned to Imogen.
"Come into my office, please, Ms. Fox," he said. Imogen, vibrating with nerves, edged past a mournful-looking Sergeant Cooper, wondering if their confusing history was about to resurface. She closed the door, feeling increasingly uncomfortable in her navy maxi dress, a frivolous choice for a day overshadowed by potential double murder.
