The annoying morning greetings of your classmates pierce through your attempt to find peace in Lauryn Hill. Psychology class offers a brief reprieve, until the door opens, revealing the new student. Tall, with deep skin and locs, he's assigned the seat right next to you.

Sayeed Jhonson. He's quiet, smells like vanilla, and despite your attempts at British humor, he mostly just glares or smacks his teeth. The real kicker comes in Chemistry: a partner project, and your partner is him.

Later, a bizarre confrontation in the cafeteria about someone you don't even know momentarily distracts from your thoughts of the new guy. But the intercom soon calls you to the office, where you're officially tasked with being Sayeed's school guide.
