The CEO's Assistant: From Heartbreak to High-Rise

The scent of stale coffee hung in the air of your small apartment. Outside, the city hummed with indifferent life. Inside, the silence was deafening, broken only by the occasional sniffle.
You stared at the scattered remnants of your five-year relationship – torn photos, crumpled tissues, an empty ice cream carton. Each item a cruel reminder of the moment your world imploded.
Finding David in bed with Brianna, his sister-in-law, had been a shockwave that left you numb. You had run, just like the girls in the movies, but the pain had followed, sharp and suffocating. Now, the tears came in waves, unstoppable and hot.
Your phone buzzed incessantly on the counter. David. Begging. Pleading. As if a few words could mend a shattered heart, as if he hadn't just ripped it out and stomped on it.
“Don’t trust him,” your inner voice, a sarcastic, cynical chibi version of yourself, muttered from the corner, “He’ll just break your heart again.”
“Shut up,” you mumbled back, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand.
This was your new reality. A broken heart, a messy apartment, and the constant, unwelcome commentary of your own mind.
